Investigation launched after bleacher vandalism at Dwenger

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police have released details about a recent vandalism incident at Dwenger High School.
Officials say an officer was dispatched to 1300 E Washington Center Rd on September 14. The Principal of the school Jason Schiffli was on scene wanting to make a report after he found the stadium bleachers had been vandalized the night before at the Homestead Vs Dwenger football game.

He also stated that there had been several posts on social media about the vandalism. He took the officer to the stadium where he found several bent and missing plates from the bleachers.
The plates hold the bleachers together and several were missing or bent. He found a section of the railing on the bottom of the bleachers was missing completely. It was about an 8 foot area that was gone. There were several bleachers that were wobbly and it was found that nuts and bolts were removed. Some of those nuts and bolts were found under the bleachers. There was also several burnt area smear marks on the floor of the first row. There were reportedly not there before the game.

There have been several posts on social media about the incident showing students pulling the railing and some holding parts of the bleachers. There was a reported post that said #BreakTheBleachers.
There were several other posts floating around that the principal was told to keep ahold of for the juvenile detective that would be assigned the case.
The Fort Wayne Police Department will be conducting an investigation into this vandalism. Both principals have been in contact and said they would continue to communicate. Police call it an active investigation.
